As is the case with every team in the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys have an understanding of which players might make the final 53-man roster. However, every once in a while, a newcomer will make a veteran expendable or the team finally cuts ties with an underachiever. With that in mind, let’s take a look at five Dallas Cowboys on the roster bubble during training camp.

B.W. Webb, CB, Dallas Cowboys

The former 114th overall pick, B.W. Webb has been underwhelming to say the least. Webb has been leapfrogged by Sterling Moore and seventh round pick Terrance Mitchell on the depth chart, and for all intents and purposes, is in danger of not making the final 53-man roster. If he doesn’t make the team, go ahead and chalk up another failed fourth-round experiment for the Cowboys.

When healthy, Matt Johnson can be a game changer thanks to his athleticism; however, he’s never healthy. At this point, if the Cowboys were to get anything out of him, I think that might be considered a plus. As with B.W. Webb, this former fourth-round experiment is firmly on the roster bubble.

Ben Bass, DT, Dallas Cowboys

Ben Bass is another guy that just cannot stay healthy. In fact, he’s ended up on I.R. the past two seasons. He sustained a hamstring injury during camp that’s keeping him out, so his spot on the team is definitely up for grabs. With young, hungry guys like Davon Coleman and Ken Bishop taking the majority of the snaps, Bass is firmly on the roster bubble.

Jeremy Parnell, OT, Dallas Cowboys

One thing about being a career backup player is that you can’t be expensive, and Jermey Parnell is. I thought that he would eventually replace Doug Free at right tackle, but that hasn’t happened, and I don’t think that it will. Cutting Parnell would save the Cowboys $ 1.5 million in cap space.

The Cowboys are giving newcomer Rolando McClain every chance to win the starting middle linebacker spot. If he does, that means that Justin Durant becomes the expensive backup. Cutting Durant would save the Cowboys $ 1.25 million in cap space.
