New York Jets’ Offense Building Momentum in Training Camp
The QB battle still rages on for the New York Jets. Everyone seems excited about QB Geno Smith‘s progression as an NFL-caliber quarterback. When asked about this situation, nine-year veteran C Nick Mangold said Smith is so much more confident this year than last. Smith is now at the stage where he’s fine-tuning the plays for each defensive set he’s up against, and that’s helping him to be a better leader in the huddle. I think this will help Smith to stay ahead of Michael Vick in the QB battle, as Vick is just learning the plays now.
Moving on to the run game, every Jets fan has to be excited about the team’s new stable of backs, including Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and FB Tommy Bohanon. But do the Jets have a 1,000-yard-back on their roster? Let’s hope that they have three! Ivory was close last season with 833 yards and the competition for the majority of carries against Johnson should push him to keep it up. My bet’s on Ivory actually beating Johnson out as the Jets’ go-to RB.
The WRs are doing their best. Eric Decker is helping to elevate the other WRs’ play and everyone’s hopeful to see the rookies. But Stephen Hill seems to still be coming along slowly, since there hasn’t been much excitement about his play in camp.
Even though the offense doesn’t mouth off as much as the defense, they’ve still got swagger. Good news is that they have to go up against the solid defense two times a day in camp to test their strength.
