10 Takeaways From Denver Broncos Camp

With training camp underway, the Denver Broncos are beginning their journey towards another Super Bowl run. There are so many angles and battles to look at in training camp for the defending AFC Champs that different fans and people from the media can go about any angle. Safe to say that the Broncos are hard at work for the 2014 season.

Here are my 10 takeaways from Broncos training camp thus far.

10. Bradley Roby Making Better Progress

The Broncos drafted Bradley Roby in the first round in hopes of finding someone outside Aqib Talib to help shut down the opposite side of the field. Roby struggled at first, but he has found a groove recently which could spell trouble for opposing offenses once he is on the field.

During the Broncos' summer scrimmage, the second-team offense went up against the first-team defense. Brock Osweiler was a little flustered but did end up completing all of his passes and the running game flourished as well. This does not provide good news to a unit that was worked upon during the offseason. If they couldn't do well against the second string, what makes fans think they would fair better against the first stringers?

In his third year with the Broncos, Peyton Manning is looking to build off of his MVP year. So far so good for the veteran. He was shown throwing deep passes during training camp which means the worries about his recovery from surgery could have finally put the health questions to rest. We shall see if we continue to see this going into the regular season.

The one area of improvement that this team needs to work on is the special teams. Trust me, Matt Prater and Britton Colquitt are fine. It is the return game that I am talking about. There is no clear-cut player who has won the job. Wes Welker needs to stay away from returning, and Isaiah Burse needs to step it up if he wants any chance to make the roster.

6. Quanterus Smith Impressing Early

We all remember last year how Julius Thomas broke out and became a huge part of the Broncos' offense. Quanterus Smith might be following that exact same path. After missing all of last year with a knee injury, Smith is looking better than ever and his emergence can really help out this defense, especially because he knows how to get to the quarterback.

5. Rahim Moore and Derek Wolfe Back in Top Form

Coming back to the defense, two players who missed the majority of the season last year due to scary injuries are now back and better than ever. Rahim Moore and Derek Wolfe enter the first week of preseason on the top of the depth chart for their respective positions. This shows how much they have been working during the offseason, and I foresee these two having stellar years in 2014.

4. Cody Latimer Proving He's A Draft Steal Early

The Broncos traded with the San Francisco 49ers to move up in the draft to take Cody Latimer, a wideout from Indiana. Now I can see why they made that move. After a slow start while recovering from a foot injury, Latimer has excelled tremendously in camp and could see some action as a rookie in the regular season if he keeps going at this rate. Look for this wideout to become the next big thing in a couple years.

3. Montee Ball's Appendectomy Opening Doors For RBs

Montee Ball will miss valuable rep time due to appendectomy surgery. He will be ready for the season opener and is still locked in as the No. 1 guy at RB. This opens the door for the other running backs on the roster to shine, making it a position battle to watch closely in the next few weeks.

2. Ronnie Hillman's Improvement

Speaking of doors opening for other RBs, Ronnie Hillman has been one of the most impressive ones during training camp. Being put into the doghouse last year must have really sparked him for 2014, and it looks like we could see the potential that fans have been dying to see from when the Broncos drafted him. Can the fans and team trust Hillman? Only time will tell.

1. Kenny Anunike Surprising Early

The Broncos signed 15 undrafted free agents once they drafted their six players, and one of them has really caught everyone by surprise. Duke Blue Devil Kenny Anunike has really done well according to the media and in practice. The Broncos have a history of at least one UDFA making the final roster. This year could be Anunike's turn to keep that history going.
