Both Geno Smith and Michael Vick have developed quite the relationship so far this year. Unlike past duos in New York Jets‘ history, there is no quarterback controversy or jealously here. It’s an interesting rapport that could bode extremely well for the Jets in contributing for a very bright future. The Jets have so far finally found a great quarterback situation to have that doesn’t involve Brett Favre, Mark Sanchez or Tim Tebow.

It all starts with respect and a willingness to make sure the team succeeds above anything else. Vick has been one of the most polarizing quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL and is now embracing a new role towards the end of his career. Developing another athlete towards greatness through training and development isn’t easy, but Vick has done a great job so far.

Smith has been reaping the benefits of having such a great mentor by his side as he’s been improving on a daily basis. Against the Indianapolis Colts in the Jets’ preseason opener, Smith played two drives with the starting team. While he wasn’t exactly throwing touchdown passes left and right, he did not commit a single turnover which is already improvement. That key observation alone is worth noting, because Smith was a turnover machine last season and looks like he’s on his way to a better season entering his sophomore year.

With Smith maturing over time, one can’t help but be grateful that the Jets made the right choice in bringing Vick in to help him during these crucial first few years. Through Vick, Smith can just relax and perform at the highest detailed level for the game he loves to play. Vick continues to push Smith towards greatness and it all starts with the mentality of one game at a time.

If both quarterbacks continue to flourish in this unique relationship, there is no telling just what this season could entail for the Jets. If it brings incredible success in the future by turning Smith into a franchise quarterback, everyone will look back at this key relationship now as the main reason why it all worked out.
