The NFL undoubtedly has talented franchises balanced throughout the league, but only a few stand out. With the preseason under way, every organization is trying to improve from 2013 regardless of the success they had. Here's a look at where each division is power ranked thus far in the preseason.

8. AFC South

The Indianapolis Colts are clearly the cream of the crop in a weak AFC South. The rest of the division is rebuilding and almost certainly finishing under .500. The Jaguars should take a solid step forward in their rebuild. Tennessee is average at best, and Houston probably won't win more than five or six games.

7. NFC East

The Philadelphia Eagles will win the NFC East again in 2014. The Giants, Cowboys and Redskins all look like they could finish 8-8 at best.

The New England Patriots are the only certainty in the AFC East this season. The Jets and Dolphins could both either sink or swim, but it's likely each are 9-7 teams at best. The Bills are clearly rebuilding and are in for a long 2014 campaign.

5. AFC North

The AFC North is difficult to gauge. Have the Browns added enough talent to approach .500? The Steelers and Ravens both look like 8-8 teams. The Bengals will end up winning the division at 9-7.

The NFC North consists of four teams that should all be competitive. The Vikings are probably the weakest team due to their QB situation. The Lions need Jim Caldwell to get them to gel as a unit. It's more likely that the Bears and Packers make the playoffs out of this division.

3. NFC South

The NFC South has three teams that have reason to believe they should make the playoffs in Carolina, Atlanta and New Orleans. The Buccaneers will surprise some people in Lovie Smith's first campaign in Tampa. This division has the best chance to take out the NFC West.

2. AFC West

The Broncos are headed for another Super Bowl appearance with some solid offseason additions and are clearly the AFC West's best team. San Diego and Kansas City could both sneak into the playoffs again in 2014 and might only need to go 9-7 to get it done. Oakland will be much better than expected, but still finish under .500.

The NFC West is undoubtedly the toast of the NFL. Seattle looks like a team that could repeat as champions. San Francisco thinks it will have something to say about that, and St. Louis and Arizona could both win 10 games if they stay healthy.
