As of today, there are close to 100 players on the Minnesota Vikings roster. This number will slowly begin to diminish as the preseason continues. Only a handful of players are safe in a cutthroat industry like the NFL.

Here are five Vikings who are currently on the bubble watch in Week 2 of the preseason.

The Vikings currently have five running backs on their roster, six if versatile fullback Zach Line is included in this group. Adrian Peterson and Jerick McKinnon are roster locks and Matt Asiata made a solid case for himself in limited work last Friday. There is no need for more than three running backs on a roster that includes Peterson. For this reason, it should be no surprise if Williams and fellow running back Joe Banyard are roster cuts.

Baker was listed as the fourth nose tackle listed on the Vikings unofficial depth chart, which was released last week. He did nothing to help himself last Friday, while his main competition, rookie Shamar Stephen, put together a very solid NFL debut. Baker will have to outperform Stephen this week if he wants to keep his roster spot, as Linval Joseph and Fred Evans are roster locks at the nose tackle position.

3. WR Erik Lora

With Adam Thielen playing so well, pretty much every wide receiver on the Vikings roster outside of Greg Jennings, Cordarrelle Patterson, Jerome Simpson and Jarius Wright are on the bubble. Thielen and Rodney Smith likely round out the top-six at this point so Lora, an undrafted free agent signing, will have his work cut out for him. Unfortunately for him, he did not help himself at all during Friday’s game against the Raiders.

2. SS Mistral Raymond

Raymond is in his fourth season with the Vikings and is the longest tenured player on this list. He suffered a concussion during Friday’s game and, as a result, was unable to improve his roster stock. Kurt Coleman played very well in his absence and Robert Blanton should be returning from injury soon. Veteran Chris Crocker was signed to be on the 53-man roster so Raymond’s injury may ultimately be the deciding blow for his roster status.

Just a couple of weeks ago, many were discussing the possibility of Mauti contending for a starting job. Now, he may be fighting for a spot on the roster. Mauti's main competition, Rookie Brandon Watts, played especially well last Friday and also entered the game on defense before him. However, he is listed on the first team for kickoff, punt return and field goal block, which may be enough to save his roster spot.
