The San Francisco 49ers have one of the deepest and most talented rosters in the NFL. This means that position battles can be pretty heated during training camp and a few solid players may find themselves fighting for a roster spot. With that in mind, let's take a look at five 49ers players on the roster bubble during training camp.

LaMichael James appeared to be on his way out of San Francisco this offseason after asking for a trade. However, an injury to backup Kendall Hunter early in training camp opened the door for James to take on a more prominent role -- that is, until he suffered an injury of his own. In his absence, rookie Carlos Hyde has shown great promise and Marcus Lattimore should have a role when he gets healthy, which means James could be on the bubble.

4. Brandon Lloyd, WR

After a year away from football, Brandon Lloyd was always going to have a difficult time making the 49ers final roster. With Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin and Stevie Johnson as the top three options and fourth-round pick Bruce Ellington and second-year player Quinton Patton offering more upside, Lloyd's chances of making the team appear to be slim to none unless he puts together a spectacular preseason.

3. Perrish Cox, CB

Chris Culliver and Tramaine Brock are likely locked in as the two starters at cornerback. Rookies Dontae Johnson and Jimmy Ward will provide solid depth in their first seasons. That leaves Perrish Cox to battle it out with former Minnesota Viking Chris Cook for the final spot. Cox has been impressive in practice, but Cook came up with an interception in the team's preseason opener. If Cook can keep it up, Cox could find himself on the bubble.

2. Jonathan Martin, T

In Thursday's preseason opener, Martin started in place of right tackle Anthony Davis, who is still recovering from shoulder surgery. The former Miami Dolphin struggled mightily against the Ravens' first unit. Martin committed a false start penalty and had a difficult time containing Baltimore linebacker Pernell McPhee. Martin does not have much competition for his backup job, but if he continues to play poorly he could be looking for a new team.

The 49ers acquired Blaine Gabbert from the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason in the hopes of revitalizing his career. It looked promising in training camp and then Gabbert took the field against the Baltimore Ravens in Thursday's preseason opener. The former first-round pick completed just 3-of-11 passes for 20 yards and an interception. Put it this way, if Gabbert makes the team, 49ers fans better hope Colin Kaepernick stays healthy.
