The Indianapolis Colts had a strong opening game against the New York Jets last week. The first team offense played extremely well, albeit it was only one series. But Andrew Luck and the rest of the first team offense looked sharp running the no huddle. The defense also played well. They didn’t give up the big play and held the Jets running game in check. Here are five things to watch as the Colts take on the New York Giants on Saturday night.

Werner had a great opening preseason game against the New York Jets. He was able to use his hands effectively and not allow himself to be locked in with the tackle. He had continued to get pressure on the quarterback and jumped off the screen in terms of his impact. Look to see if he can continue his impressive play for a second straight week. The Colts are counting on him to be an impact player this year.

The rookie out of Ohio State played decent against the Jets, but there is plenty to improve on this week. In terms of pass protection he played well and didn’t allow any pressure on Luck, but his play in the running game can use some work. He was playing too tall and has to learn how to use leverage to his advantage. That is something to watch moving forward.

The undrafted center out of Florida is expected to be the starter as Khaled Holmes is out with an ankle injury. Last week he was very shaky but got better as the game went along. It will be interesting to see how much he has improved since last week considering the Colts are very thin along the offensive line.

2. What Tempo Will the Offense Move At?

Last week the Colts ran the no huddle offense right out of the gate and the results were very good. Pep Hamilton already stated that he might not do that every week, so the Colts could go to a slower tempo this week. The Colts want to be flexible on offense this year, and executing at different tempos is going to make them much more dangerous.

Davis signed a massive deal in the offseason, and now it's time to start living up to that contract. He should get his first taste of NFL action this season after sitting out the first game with an injury that has plagued him throughout training camp. Consistency is something Davis has to work on moving forward, and it will be curious to see how well he can play in his first game back.
