Philadelphia Eagles Preseason 2014: 5 Things To Watch For in Week 2

The Philadelphia Eagles failed to take flight in their Week 1 game against the Chicago Bears. Nick Foles had two interceptions and rookie WR Jordan Matthews struggled to get going. Now the Eagles have a chance to right their wrongs when the team takes on the New England Patriots in Week 2.

G.J. Kinne, Mark Sanchez and Matt Barkley all outplayed starting quarterback Nick Foles in their Week 1 preseason game. Granted it's only the preseason, but the three backups went a combined 22-for-38 which isn't too shabby. Right now it looks as if Sanchez has the grip on the No. 2 spot because of his experience, but there is still an opportunity for the other two to step up and claim the spot.

The Chicago Bears torched the Eagles for 407 passing yards through the air, and now they get to go up against Tom Brady and company. We know that the Eagles have a strong front seven, but the secondary may cause some problems throughout the season if it continues to give up 400-plus yards through the air. The Eagles' defense ranked No. 1 in 2013 for pass yards allowed (4,636 yards overall), so they need to right the ship there.

The Eagles may have found another weapon on offense. Josh Huff scored on a 102-yard kick return, and let me tell you, the kid is pretty fast. Huff joined the Eagles this season when the team selected him with the No. 86 overall pick in the NFL Draft, and now the former Oregon Duck gets to play with his old coach Chip Kelly. Coach Kelly knows Huff better than anyone, and I'm sure he has a role for him in his new-look Eagles offense.

Many are predicting a big year and an even bigger role for Ertz in his second year with the team. In the first preseason game he finished with four receptions and team-high 60 yards. Ertz is going to break out this season, and he may end up as a top-10 TE when it is all said and done. Ertz saw his stock go up, but Jordan Matthews' went down. The rookie WR had four drops in his first game, and he needs to work on securing the ball in Week 2.

Nick Foles has the weapons and the ability, and now it's up to him to lead this Eagles' offense. Foles had an uncharacteristic game in Week 2 and was under a lot of pressure due to a talented Bears' pass rush. I expect Foles to get back on track in Week 2, but it's going to be hard against a very stout Patriots secondary. Look for Foles to play well and put his two-interception performance behind him.
