Week 1 of the NFL preseason wasn’t exactly a nice one for the Dallas Cowboys.

Aside from the play of the offensive line, and a few individual performances, the Cowboys have a lot of questions that they need to answer prior to Week 1 of the regular season.

Here are five things to watch for in Week 2 of the 2014 NFL preseason.

Much has been said about Bruce Carter leading up to this season, most of it had been positive, that is, until he took the field against the San Diego Chargers in Game 1 of the preseason. On that day, Carter played 13 snaps and recorded 5 total tackles, which, if you’re looking at on paper seems pretty good right? Unfortunately, a lot of those tackles came way past the line of scrimmage. He finished the day with a -2.2 overall grade from PFF.

Due to the Cowboys only having three healthy cornerbacks for Game 1 of the preseason, seventh round cornerback Terrance Mitchell saw a lot of action against the San Diego Chargers. There was a lot of hype surrounding Mitchell heading into that game, but he allowed three receptions for 54 yards, all of which moved the chains, and he was flagged twice for defensive holds.

The Defensive Line

The Cowboys defensive line is Swiss cheese. I don’t think that there’s anyone out there that will debate otherwise. All eyes will be on Rod Marinelli and his staff to see what adjustments they have made to try and generate a pass-rush.

The Offensive Line

It appears that the Cowboys’ offensive line is the real deal. I want to see how they will handle a much more aggressive defense in the Baltimore Ravens. I want to see if they can open up lanes for the running backs as well as they did against the San Diego Chargers.

Tony Romo’s Return to Action

For the first time since his season-ending back injury, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will see in-game action. I, along with everyone else, am anxious to see if he’s lost anything in terms of mobility and arm strength following the second of two back surgeries. I also want to see how he’s going to fare after taking that first hit.
