As we approach the midpoint of the NFL preseason, there are players who may be in danger of losing a spot on the 53-man roster. Some of these players will end up being safe, but here is an educated guess at who might be looking at either reduced playing time or a ticket out of Indianapolis.

It isn’t likely that the Colts will keep five tight ends on the roster. Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen know the system, which leaves room for a third and maybe a fourth tight end to pick up some of the slack.

Considering the No. 3 wideout has been waived and activated more often than not in the last year, the chances of him lasting into the regular season appear to be slim. The team signed other receivers who could provide more help, which makes Whalen expendable.

Lenz, a former Iowa State standout, missed the second half of last season due to injury, and it appears his road upward will be more difficult than thought. There are so many receivers in camp now that Lenz may have trouble holding on.

2. Da'Rick Rogers

Rogers was picked up last year after the Buffalo Bills waived him, but he may be running out of chances with Indianapolis. It’s not known how many receivers the Colts will keep and how deep they will go, but
Rogers could be on a roster bubble.

The addition of Erik Swoope could push Saunders and a few other tight ends along, but the likelihood that the Colts keep five tight ends is slim and none. Saunders knows the system, but is that enough to keep him in a Colts uniform?
