The Green Bay Packers will take on the St. Louis Rams this weekend for their second preseason game. That means several players will have another, and possibly last, chance at proving their worth to the team. There are the players who are guaranteed a spot on the 53-man roster, the players who are sure to get cut and then there are the players who are still up in the air. Here’s a look at five players on the roster bubble in preseason Week 2.

Ryan Taylor has gone from a player with the potential of becoming a contributor on offense, to a stellar asset on special teams, to someone who could very well get cut in training camp. It will all come down to what the other tight ends do in amp because right now Taylor is one of the odd men out. The one thing he has going for him is that undrafted rookie Colt Lyerla will miss a couple of weeks with a knee injury.

LaDarius Perkins led the Packers with 10 rushing attempts for 18 yards in last week’s preseason loss to the Tennessee Titans. Even though the Packers are rather confident with the four assumed running backs on the projected final roster, there always seem to be a few surprises every year. For that reason, there’s an outside chance that Perkins will make the team if he continues to play well.

Undrafted rookie Joe Thomas avoided a serious knee against the Titans. The inside linebacker was knocked out after only four defensive snaps, but the good news is he should be back to practice soon. Thomas is someone who made a great impression on the Green Bay coaching staff, which is why his playing time increased in practice. He’s someone who could be a staple on special teams in 2014.

As I see it, the Packers will only keep five receivers on the final roster. With rookie Jared Abbrederis out for the season with a torn ACL, the No. 5 wide receiver spot is open for grabs. It’s Myles White’s spot to lose, but the fact that Chris Harper has played well in training camp could spell disaster for White. Harper hauled in two receptions for a team-high 55 yards in last Saturday’s preseason game.

Lyerla was someone I thought would beat out Taylor for one of the final tight end spots on the 53-man roster. Unfortunately, a knee injury two weeks ago, which has been described as a severe sprain, has put him in a terrible position to make the team. Even though he has plenty of potential, missing a big chunk of camp puts him at a disadvantage. Because the Packers like his talent, he still has an outside shot of clinching a spot on the roster.
