A lot of good things were taken away from the Chicago Bears’ Week 1 preseason victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. There are several players who turned heads and have given fans a reason to keep a close eye on them going into their second exhibition game. Here are six Bears who will be closely examined against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2 of the preseason.
Bears fans didn’t get a chance to see the team’s biggest acquisition from the offseason play in the first preseason game. Adding Jared Allen to the mix along the defensive line on Thursday should only improve a pass rush that was pretty productive last week.
Even though it may seem that Zach Miller has already claimed the No. 2 tight end spot with his performance from last week, many will be looking to see if he can come close to duplicating the 68 receiving yards and two touchdowns he put up on the Eagles.
With Marquess Wilson already sidelined for a while with a broken clavicle and Chris Williams injuring his hamstring last week, Josh Morgan needs to take advantage and separate himself from the rest of the competition in order to claim the No. 3 wide receiver spot.
Rookie Ka’Deem Carey didn’t do much in the first preseason game to set himself apart from the other running backs on the depth chart. The battle to back up Matt Forte is still up for grabs, and Carey needs to prove that he’s the man for the job on Thursday.
Chris Conte has been off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list for only a week, and his status for the second preseason game is uncertain. However, if Conte is cleared to play, his performance will have to be near flawless for him to have a chance at reclaiming his spot in the starting lineup.
Last week’s 150 passing yards and two touchdown passes have earned Jimmy Clausen the right to come in as the second quarterback on Thursday against the Jaguars. Another stellar performance could virtually solidify his spot as the Bears’ No. 2 QB.
