New York Jets Should Be Looking For Revenge vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Geno Smith Against Bengals

The New York Jets‘ second preseason game will be on Saturday night against the Cincinnati Bengals on the road, which is not a place the Jets have fond memories of from last season. The Week 8 loss last season was easily the Jets’ worst of the year, as they couldn’t score a touchdown and also gave up a large number of them. The 49-9 loss from last season has to be on the minds of Rex Ryan and his players heading into Saturday.

It being a preseason game, Bengals QB Andy Dalton obviously won’t be playing the whole time, but should see at least a quarter worth of snaps and will have the contract shadow looming over him at every turn. Although he might not have another career day, Dalton will be able to test out the weak Jets secondary that Andrew Luck was tearing apart in Week 1, and will be looking to build upon his chemistry with A.J. Green.

For Geno Smith, Week 2 is another opportunity to improve upon his strong offseason, as he was named the starter for the game against the Bengals by Ryan. Smith played well against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, and will be playing more in Week 2 before the real tune-up preseason game against the New York Giants.

The Jets are a prideful team that will surely be motivated and reminded by their head coach about last season’s horrible loss to the Bengals, and this is their chance to make things right. One thing is for sure: Matt Simms will be seeing time on the field yet again.
