5 New York Jets On Roster Bubble In Preseason Week 2

A lot of people look at the preseason and think of it as an exhibition with little-to-no meaning. Even though the games don't mean a lot in terms of wins and losses, there are still a lot of players trying to fight for a chance to make the main roster. Take a look at these five Jets who are righting for a roster spot in Week 2.

With the emergence of LB A.J. Edds, it spells trouble for Jeremiah George, who is auditioning for some playing time in 2014. The fifth-round rick from Iowa State did not have a strong showing in the Jets' first preseason game. He had a chance to save a touchdown and make an open-field tackle, but he missed his opportunity to make a play. I expect a better showing from George in Week 2.

Daryl Richardson was once the No. 1 running back for the St. Louis Rams, but he struggled and found himself on waivers in 2014. He is only 24 years old, so he is still young and learning the ropes of the NFL, but he might not see the field with the Jets. Unluckily for him, the Jets have a lot of depth at running back, so he may be a candidate for the practice squad if he doesn't breakout with a big game soon.

The 6-foot-7 nose tackle from Georgia Tech has an NFL-type body and a lot of talent. The problem is that the New York Jets have one of the best defensive lines in the NFL, so T.J. Barnes may be expendable. The Jets have a need for corners on the roster following the recent wave of injuries, and Barnes may be the odd man out. He needs to have a big game against the Cincinnati Bengals and prove to his coaches that he belongs on the main roster.

Tajh Boyd was one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks during his time at Clemson, but now that he is in the NFL things are a lot different. Right now, Boyd is struggling big time and he's fighting for the No. 3 quarterback spot that belongs to Matt Simms. I don't want to write off Boyd and call him a bust, but he has a long way to go in order to make an impact on an NFL team, and I hope he proves me wrong.

The Jets' rookie WR needs to shine in Week 2 and make a run for the No. 2 wide receiver job. Behind Eric Decker, no one is yet to impress the coaching staff, and Shaquelle Evans needs to stand out from the pack. John Idzik loves young players, so it would be hard for him to put Evans on the practice squad, but he may leave him with no choice if he continues to coast along.
