The second game of the exhibition season takes place on Saturday night when the New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts face off. Although the teams will still rest their starters the majority of the time, there are a few things to watch out for in this contest. Here are my five bold predictions for the game.
Landry's groin injury kept the defensive standout from showing off prior to now, so expect the coaches to give him just enough time to flex his muscles ... but not so much that he risks injuring his groin all over again. The Colts don't want to lose a stalwart like Landry for another few weeks.
Last week's injury to Khaled Holmes led the Colts to insert untested Jonotthan Harrison on the offensive line. There were some hiccups at first that led the Colts' offense to be chased around, but Harrison eventually settled in. He and the others have had a full week together, so Game 2 should be smoother.
Richardson needs to establish himself as the No. 1 back quickly. Injuries to Vick Ballard and others have left the Colts' running game a bit bare. Ahmad Bradshaw is a decent No. 2, but Richardson is clearly the starter. Saturday night will prove it.
The season and career-ending injury to David Wilson means Rashad Jennings will be pressed into service as the No. 1 back, at least until someone else is brought in. Will someone else be signed? Jennings could make his case in this game to get the ball more often.
Last week, the Giants' defense got its first chance to flex some preseason muscles, and players like Steve Weatherford and Spencer Paysinger will do so once again this week. The Colts' offense has been a bit suspect at times, and Andrew Luck is known to throw a few interceptions here and there.
