Week 3 is normally the most decisive and compelling week of the NFL preseason. A lot of final coaching decisions will be made, many players will be cut and every player will be competing at his highest level. Since the quarterback competition is the biggest headline in Minnesota, all three Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks will be players to watch this week.

Here are five Vikings players to keep an eye on in Week 3 of the NFL preseason.

5. WR Cordarrelle Patterson

With at least two Vikings quarterbacks expected to play with the first-team offense in Kansas City, Patterson should be on the field quite a bit this weekend. He is always exciting to watch, regardless of whether or not the result of the game matters. It will also be interesting to see if offensive coordinator Norv Turner showcases any of his designed plays for Patterson.

Rhodes has been in the spotlight for the majority of training camp and the preseason, as he has been a main focus of head coach Mike Zimmer. He has played very well at times and struggled at times as well, namely last weekend against the Arizona Cardinals. Rhodes is one of the main keys to the success of the Vikings defense, making it absolutely critical that he bounces back with a strong performance this weekend.

3. QB Christian Ponder

Ponder is an interesting addition to this list, as it is not necessarily his play that is worth watching, but how much he is involved during practice and the game this weekend. After not playing at all last weekend and not practicing much today, signs are beginning to point towards Ponder being cut. Keep an eye on Ponder this week, as it may be his last week in purple and gold.

2. QB Teddy Bridgewater

After a somewhat unexpected and brilliant performance against the Arizona Cardinals, Bridgewater will look to delay Mike Zimmer’s starting quarterback decision for another week. He will spend a lot of time on the field with the first-team this weekend and throughout the week during practice. Cassel may appear to have the starting job locked up, but Bridgewater closes the gap with every day that passes without a final decision.

Cassel enters week three of the preseason with another chance to solidify himself as the Vikings starting QB in Week 1. He has played well in both preseason games; the problem is that his competition has also played exceptionally well. If Cassel can put together another strong game, in an extended appearance, Mike Zimmer will have no choice to name him the starter, given that he has done nothing to warrant losing the job.
