The New Orleans Saints picked up their second preseason victory in as many games this past week, instilling excitement in players, coaches and fans alike. The team travels to Indianapolis in the third week of exhibition play to face the Colts. Here are five Saints players that are most worthy of your attention in that matchup.
A quad injury has held Stills out of the majority of training camp, but he returned to practice this week and should play against the Colts. Look for Stills to assume a larger role this season in the wake of Lance Moore’s departure. Even though rookie Brandin Cooks is promising, the Saints will need Stills to step up in 2014.
After officially being listed third on the Saints’ running back depth chart, you can bet that Thomas is disgruntled. Expect the trusty veteran to prove his worth against the Colts and show how important of a cog he is in the well-oiled machine that is the Saints offense.
Jean-Baptiste is one of the more intriguing rookies in the 2014 draft class. At 6-foot-3, he has ideal size for the modern NFL corner and has already displayed ball-hawking ability after picking off a pass against the Titans. It will be interesting to see if Jean-Baptiste can keep up the good work as August rolls on.
After Ryan Griffin’s strong performance in the first preseason game, McCown responded last week by throwing a pair of touchdown passes. The well-traveled veteran will be putting it all on the line against the Colts as he vies for top backup duty.
Last but not least, how could you not be excited to see Drew Brees play for the first time this year? A strained oblique — which was apparently serious enough to hold him out of a regular season game, by the way — has subsided and Brees is expected to take a few snaps against the Colts.
