The Pittsburgh Steelers face the Philadelphia Eagles in the third week of exhibition play in what figures to be an intriguing game. Here are some Steelers players who you should keep on an eye on during this in-state matchup. Spoiler alert: most of these guys are newcomers to the team in 2014.
The Steelers brought in Moore after receivers Jericho Cotchery and Emmanuel Sanders departed in the offseason. The veteran pass catcher has caught only one pass this preseason, so fans should be eager to see what he can do against the Eagles.
After posting a 4.21-second time in the 40-yard dash, Archer has continued to blaze by defenders this preseason. He ripped off a 46-yard catch and run against the New York Giants, and is primed for more big plays this week as he contends for a role in the Steelers' offense.
Despite missing seven training camp practices and the first preseason game, Shazier stood out last week against the Buffalo Bills, picking off an E.J. Manuel pass. Steelers fans should be excited to see how their first-round pick fares in pass coverage against the likes of LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles.
After missing the second half of last season due to an ankle injury, Thomas has been on fire this preseason, even drawing praise from head coach Mike Tomlin. Look for the sophomore pro to continue his ascension against the Eagles. Thomas appears to be the heir apparent to Troy Polamalu in the Steelers’ back end.
The Steelers pulled off one of the draft’s major heists by nabbing Tuitt in the second round. The Notre Dame product displayed hustle last week against the Bills, chasing down Scott Chandler on a third-and-long play. Tuitt is in a good position to see a lot of playing time in 2014 as long as he finishes strong this month.
