Cleveland Browns’ Johnny Manziel Outplays Brian Hoyer In Week 3
The countdown to Johnny Manziel being named the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback has officially begun.
Manziel did a little bit of everything on Monday night against the Washington Redskins: he gave someone the middle finger, he threw a touchdown and he once again proved to the NFL and his coaches that he is the best quarterback on the Browns’ roster. Now all that remains to be seen is if the Brown’s coaching staff will name him the Week 1 starter against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
His No. 1 competition for the starting QB job was Brian Hoyer and he didn’t do much of anything when he had his chance on the field. Hoyer finished 2 of 6 passing with 16 yards and an ugly quarterback rating of 42.4. Johnny Football on the other hand wasn’t great in his pass-to-completion ratio with 7 out of 16, but he did finish with 65 yards through the air and a touchdown.
No one expects Manziel to turn into a superstar overnight. He even said himself that he might not be prepared for Week 1 against the Steelers, but he still believes that he is the right man for the job and I would have to agree with him. Manziel has already taken the NFL by storm by setting preseason viewing records and a crazy amount of jersey sales so fans are going to make a push for him to start even if they decide to go with Hoyer under center.
Did Manziel show the world that he is going to be the next Drew Brees on Monday night? No, but he did show the world that he is the best quarterback on the Browns’ roster and that is what matters most.
