NFL Preseason 2014: 5 Bold Predictions For Jaguars vs. Lions

The third game of the exhibition season takes place on Saturday night when the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions face off in Detroit. Both teams will play their starters the majority of the time in what will be a final dress rehearsal before the season begins. There are a few things to watch out for in this contest, and here are my five bold predictions for the game.

5. All 3 Detroit Lions Tight Ends Will Catch 1 Pass

Detroit has three incredibly talented tight ends in Brandon Pettigrew, Joseph Fauria and Eric Ebron, but Ebron has been the only one to catch a pass this preseason. With the third preseason game being essentially a dress rehearsal for the regular season, I expect all three to get involved in the passing game and even line up on the field at the same time at some point.

4. Both Teams Will Be Called For 10+ Penalties

Jacksonville has been called for 22 penalties in the last two games with 14 coming against Chicago last week. Detroit has been called for a lot of penalties as well, committing 16 in two games with 11 coming last week against Oakland.

3. Jacksonville Will Rush For Over 100 Yards

Jacksonville's ground game has been solid so far this preseason, rushing for 91 yards in Week 1 and 92 yards in Week 2. Detroit's run defense, on the other hand, has had their issues, giving up 89 yards in Week 1 and 106 in Week 2.

2. Joique Bell Will Lead The Lions in Rushing Yards

Detroit has two solid running backs in Reggie Bush and Joique Bell, but Bell has been the most productive running back so far. Both have had limited action in the preseason, but Bell has averaged 4.5 yards per carry while Bush has been held to just 2.0 yards per carry.

1. Jacksonville Will Force At Least 1 Turnover

Last season, Detroit was one of the worst teams in the NFL at turning the ball over, and Jacksonville has done a good job in collecting turnovers this preseason. Jacksonville forced two turnovers against Tampa Bay in Week 1, including a pick-six by Winston Guy, and forced two more against Chicago.
