To say that the past few months have been challenging for Jim Kelly and his family would certainly be an understatement. The Buffalo Bills great has been battling cancer once again, going through radiation and chemotherapy treatment along the way.
Many fans have been holding their breath awaiting the news of Kelly’s latest cancer scan, and news from Lenox Hill Hospital has finally arrived. Here’s the official statement from the hospital, which should put a smile on your face:
“Jim Kelly was evaluated yesterday at the New York Head & Neck Institute at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, three months after having completed the radiation and chemotherapy protocol designed to treat his recurrent sinus cancer. Dr. Peter Constantino, Executive Director of the Institute, stated that, ‘The treatments so far have completely eliminated Mr. Kelly’s pain, and his level of function has essentially returned to normal. Further, on physical examination, there is no evidence of the cancer.’
Over the coming week, a series of tests will be performed to determine if any further treatment will be necessary. Constantino added, ‘It is possible that no further treatment will be required, and the testing over the next week will define this issue.'”
This is fantastic news for Kelly and his family, and also for the Bills. The Hall of Fame QB is currently in the running to purchase the franchise, and even if his group doesn’t ultimately buy it, you can bet that the HOF’er will have some sort of role with his former team in the future.
Here’s to hoping for an endless amount of cancer-free scans for JK12.
