The Denver Broncos looked like the team to beat in the NFL following Week 2 of the preseason. The roster and depth chart are starting to take shape and the first round of cuts are right around the corner. Here is a look at five players to watch in what amounts to the dress rehearsal for the starters before the regular season opens September 7th against the Indianapolis Colts.

Quanterus Smith has played himself into being a lock to make the Broncos’ 53-man active roster. At his current pace, he will be extremely hard to keep off of the field. Look for the Broncos to find creative ways to get Smith on the field in pass-rush situations.

With Jordan Norwood suffering a season-ending ACL injury, Burse jumped to the top of the list of contenders to win the punt and kickoff returner jobs. Burse has turned heads in training camp and has a legitimate opportunity on Saturday night against the Houston Texans to win a spot on the Broncos 2014 active roster.

With Emmanuel Sanders missing an extended amount of time due to injury, Cody Latimer has gotten a chance to work with the first-team offense. The 2nd-round pick hasn’t disappointed. He has performed well enough in camp to be in the mix for serious playing time at wide receiver. He’s another player who will get an extended look with the starting group on Saturday night and could play his way into being one of the Broncos’ top three wide receivers.

2. Ryan Clady

Saturday night will be a great indication of whether or not Ryan Clady is fully recovered from his 2013 foot injury. The starters for both teams will play extended minutes giving Clady a chance to match up with J.J. Watt and/or JaDaveon Clowney. The Texans’ defensive end duo will give Clady an all-important final tune-up before the 2014 season.

With Chris Harris missing all of training camp recovering from his 2013 knee injury, Bradley Roby has been thrown into the fire as a raw, but talented rookie. There is no doubting that Harris is the starter when he comes back, but the Broncos will need Roby to play a significant role in 2014. Keep an eye on how well he does covering Texans’ wideouts Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins.
