It seems like it's been quite a while since the Raiders have had some honest-to-goodness competition for roster spots, but Oakland is in a position of having some real players on the squad this season and not just having to settle for who was on the roster. It's produced some intense competition for spots. Here are five players who are currently on the roster bubble.

5. George Atkinson III

Not even being the son of a Raiders legend will likely be enough for the team to keep UFA Atkinson III on the roster. Oakland hasn't utilized him very much in the preseason, and with so few touches (one), he has been unsurprisingly unproductive. Though it would be a nice story, there doesn't appear to be much of a need for Atkinson III with Jones-Drew, McFadden, Murray and Sheets likely filling out the backfield.

4. Tony Bergstrom

Perhaps being GM Reggie McKenzie's first-draft pick makes him something of a sentimental figure, but he's done little to earn his spot. By sliding him over to center, the Raiders have given Bergstrom every opportunity to stick with the team, but Kevin Boothe seems to be the more versatile, athletic player. And in the end, McKenzie will likely only keep those who can help the team. Unfortunately for Bergstrom, it doesn't appear he can.

3. Juron Criner

For a while this offseason, there was a lot of talk about the “emergence” of Juron Criner. On the verge of the third game of the preseason, fans are still waiting for him to emerge. With just one catch for eight yards through the first two games, Criner is looking at the real possibility of losing his spot on the roster as the Raiders are deeper at WR than they have been in a while.

2. Taiwan Jones

Yes, he just signed a new contract this offseason, but even that doesn't guarantee him a spot on the roster, especially with him being owed very little guaranteed money. Jones has done little to distinguish himself this preseason, and with Chimdi Chekwa and Carrie showing that they're superior in coverage, Jones finds himself in a precarious position.

1. Stacy McGee

With a defensive line beefed up by new arrivals such as Justin Tuck, Antonio Smith, C.J. Wilson and LaMarr Woodley, there may simply not be enough roster spots available for McGee. He's certainly done little to make himself valuable, and it may well cost him a job.
