The Jacksonville Jaguars play the Detroit Lions Friday night at Ford Field in each team's third preseason game. The Jaguars are getting healthier and look improved on each side of the ball in the preseason. With that in mind, here are five players to watch when the Jags take on the Lions.

Blake Bortles has been everything the Jaguars expected and more through the team's two preseason games. Friday's game against Detroit will provide the rookie with his latest test when he takes reps with the first-team offense against the Lions.

After sustaining an injury early in training camp, Cecil Shorts will make his preseason debut against the Lions. Shorts is vital to the success of the Jaguars offense, so hopefully after a limited number of reps in the preseason he will be ready to go for the start of the regular season.

3. Dekoda Watson, LB

Dekoda Watson is finally healthy and will make his Jaguars debut Friday after signing as a free agent this past offseason. Watson has the potential to be a dynamic playmaker in coach Gus Bradley's defense and on special teams, but he will have to catch second-year linebacker LaRoy Reynolds , who remains ahead of him on the depth chart.

2. Jacques McClendon, C/G

Mike Brewster has been the starter at center throughout training camp and in each of the team's two preseason games. That will change Friday, as Jacques McClendon is expected to start at center after taking the first-team snaps all week. This is McClendon's chance to prove he deserves the job.

Jordan Todman has not necessarily done anything to lose the backup running back job, but he has not necessarily done anything to win the job either. Denard Robinson has been running well in the preseason and could push Todman for the backup job with another solid game in Detroit. Todman needs to have a good game to hold down his spot behind starter Toby Gerhart.
