The St. Louis Rams were dealt a horrific blow in preseason week 3 with Sam Bradford's latest injury. The former No. 1 pick will miss the entire 2014 season with a torn ACL, and his career in St. Louis may very well be over.

In the meantime, the Rams will turn to veteran Shaun Hill under center. Here are five reasons why the Rams' offense is doomed with Hill at the helm:

Shaun Hill is 34 years old, and he's only started 26 games over eight years in the NFL. To his credit, he's gone 13-13 in those games, but there's a reason he's held a lot more clipboards than game balls since 2005.

Not only is Hill a journeyman QB, he's a journeyman QB who hasn't played much as of late. He didn't attempt a single pass last season and he only attempted 13 the season before.

The last time Hill saw meaningful action was in 2010 when Matthew Stafford went down with an injury. The veteran QB didn't fair so well while filling in, leading the Lions to just a 3-7 record in Stafford's absence.

The Rams have some good up-and-coming receivers (Tavon Austin). But overall it's Kenny Britt leading the way with six years of experience. Britt has been decent during his time in the NFL, but Rams fans should far from feel good about the crop of receivers Hill has to work with. Ideally, the backup QB would get established veterans to help shoulder the load, which is clearly not the case in St. Louis.

It could have been worse for the Rams. Bradford's injury could have happened midseason again. Hill will at least get a good 10 days to adjust to his new role as the team's starter. But it's really hard to imagine him being fully up to speed and on the same page with all of the first team WRs until a couple of weeks into the season. Rust from not playing for three straight seasons will be a big factor.

The Rams don't have the most difficult start to 2014, with games against the Vikings, Bucs and Cowboys to kick things off. Hill must notch a couple of victories in these early contests, because the road gets rocky after that in the loaded NFC West. If he's not looking like a legitimate starting QB by the Week 4 Bye, look for St. Louis to make a move for another signal-caller.
