Jacksonville Jaguars 2014 Season: Predicting the Final 53-Man Roster

The Jacksonville Jaguars have 22 more players to cut by Saturday to get down to the 53-man roster limit. The team has performed well this preseason and still has a few position battles left to sort out in Thursday's preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons. With that being said, here is my predictions for the Jaguars' final 53-man roster.

Quarterback (2)

Chad Henne, Blake Bortles

Initially, it was thought the Jaguars would keep three quarterbacks on the active roster this season in order to sit Blake Bortles. However, the rookie has been so impressive in the preseason that it should allow the Jaguars to keep just two quarterbacks on the active roster. Ricky Stanzi could find a place on the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Running Back (5)

Toby Gerhart, Jordan Todman, Denard Robinson, Storm Johnson, Will Ta'ufo'ou (FB)

Gerhart is the unquestioned workhorse and Todman will be his backup. That leaves Robinson and Johnson to fight it out for the remaining touches and fill a role on special teams. Ta'ufo'ou will start at fullback.

Wide Receiver (5)

Cecil Shorts III, Marqise Lee, Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, Mike Brown

There was never any doubt about the first three players listed. Hurns rise is capped as he will stick on the final roster along with the reliable Brown. Ace Sanders will be on the team, but he will not count against the 53-man roster until he returns from a four-game suspension.

Tight End (3)

Marcedes Lewis, Clay Harbor, Marcel Jensen

If he can stay healthy, Lewis is set for a big season. The struggles of the guys behind Lewis this preseason proved just how important Harbor is to the team. Jensen had a rough preseason, but could make the team based on his potential, or the team could scour the waiver wire for a better option.

Luke Joeckel, Zane Beadles, Brandon Linder, Austin Pasztor, Cam Bradfield, Jacques McClendon, Luke Bowanko, Sam Young, Mike Brewster

Backup tackle Sam Young will make the team for now due to the injury to Pasztor. It will be interesting to see what the Jaguars do at center, but for now it appears they will role with McClendon and the rookie Bowanko. Brewster has struggled this preseason, but will stick based on his versatility.

Defensive Line (10)

Chris Clemons, Tyson Alualu, Red Bryant, Roy Miller, Sen'Derrick Marks, Arby Jones, Andre Branch, Chris Smith, Ryan Davis, Ziggy Hood

The Jaguars addressed the defensive line in a big way this past offseason with the additions of Clemons, Bryant and Hood. With Branch, Smith and Davis, they should have plenty of depth behind Clemons at the LEO position.

Linebacker (6)

Paul Posluszny, Geno Hayes, LaRoy Reynolds, Telvin Smith, Dekoda Watson, Nate Stupar

The sixth linebacker spot will likely come down to Stupar and J.T. Thomas. Stupar has played well all preseason and should make the team as Posluszny's backup. However, Thomas could stick around if there are concerns about the health of Watson or Hayes.

Defensive Back (10)

Alan Ball, Dwayne Gratz, Will Blackmon, Demetrius McCray, Jeremy Harris, Rashaad Reynolds, Winston Guy, Johnathan Cyprien, Josh Evans, Sherrod Martin

There were plenty of questions about the status of Evans this preseason, but the former sixth-round pick responded well and should have a role in the secondary despite losing his starting job to Guy. Aaron Colvin will begin the year on the PUP list and won't count against the roster.

Josh Scobee (K), Bryan Anger (P), Carson Tinker (LS)

There was never any doubt that these three players would make the final roster.
