The Tennessee Titans are coming off a mediocre 2013 season, as they went 7-9. They are looking towards possibly making the playoffs as a Wild Card team in 2014, but they are challenged right from the beginning of the season. Here are five games that will define their 2014 season.

The regular season does not start out easy for the Titans, as they will be on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs. Last season Kansas City was in the playoffs, and at home they have a very good crowd that produces a good home-field advantage. Week 1 may be a sour start for the Titans.

The Titans’ first home game is pretty much a must-win for them against the Dallas Cowboys. With three of their first four games on the road against AFC playoff teams from last season, it makes the game against the Cowboys very important to avoid a possible 0-4 start.

3. Week 5 vs. Cleveland Browns

Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns will be the Titans' first game after their tough start to the season. This game will be probably be a defensive slugfest, and with the Titans holding an edge on offense, that along with being at home should be able to get them what could be their first win of the season. In Week 5 the big question is will they be facing Brian Hoyer or Johnny Manziel?

Week 11 will be the Titans’ one and only Monday Night Football game of the season. They will be facing the Pittsburgh Steelers at home, and the Steelers figure to be a bit better than the Titans on paper which could spoil Tennessee hosting MNF. Pittsburgh will likely be in the playoff hunt in the AFC, and if the Titans want to make it to the playoffs this season, games like this are the ones they need.

The final Thursday Night game of the season will go out with a bang as the Titans will be playing the Jacksonville Jaguars. This could very well be the game that the Titans will see the Jaguars’ first-round pick Blake Bortles. Bortles is expected to sit the entire year, but it wouldn’t surprise anyone if he’s starting at this time of the season.
