Arizona Cardinals Should Give James Harrison A Chance

The Arizona Cardinals have lost a ton of talent due to injuries and suspensions on the defensive side. Star defensive tackle Darnell Dockett will miss the season with a torn ACL. Linebacker Daryl Washington is also going to miss the entire year after multiple violations of the substance abuse policy. Safety Tyrann Mathieu is trying to get back on the field from a knee injury. This defense will look a lot different than it did last year.

That is why bringing in James Harrison is necessary for the Cardinals. Despite players getting cut all around the league, Harrison is still one of the better talents on the free agent market. He is reportedly visiting Arizona today to try out for the Cards.

While his talents are obviously declining, Harrison has always kept himself in great shape. He had his worst season of his career, but he could have been affected by playing his first season for a team that isn’t the Pittsburgh Steelers. His two sacks is the lowest total he had since 2006.

Speaking of the Steelers, rumors say that they have not completely ruled out bringing back the 36-year-old. Maybe Harrison is using this visit as leverage when it comes to negotiating with them, or maybe he is just trying to show that he still has something left in the tank.

The Cardinals should take the plunge on Harrison. He would be good as a fill-in for this year. He is a full year out of Pittsburgh, so he can just focus on being a great pass rusher again. The Cards need more talent on defense after that side of the ball carried them to a 10-win season in 2013. If they are going to compete in the NFC West, they are going to have to replace some of the talent they lost.
