NFL Power Rankings 2014: Top 10 TEs After Preseason Week 3

Over the past decade, the tight end position has been revolutionized. Players like Antonio Gates and Jimmy Graham have made them become a cog of the passing game and some of the best athletes on the field. As the regular season approaches, it's pretty evident who the elite tight ends are in the NFL. Here are my top 10 tight ends after Week 3 of the preseason.

10. Martellus Bennett

Martellus Bennett had his best season in the NFL in his first year with the Chicago Bears with 65 receptions for 759 yards. With Jay Cutler at the helm, the Bears have one of the top passing offenses in the NFL, and Bennett should continue to be a part of it.

9. Charles Clay

Charles Clay returns as the third-leading receiver for a Miami Dolphins team that is on the rise. At 6-foot-3 and 255 pounds, he is a bit smaller than some of the elite tight ends in the league, but he plays bigger than his size.

8. Greg Olsen

It seems like Greg Olsen has been around forever, but he is only entering his age-29 season this year. He has been an integral part of the Carolina Panthers' turnaround over the past couple of years. He's certainly one of the more savvy players in the NFL as he is a great blocker but also possesses sticky hands.

7. Kyle Rudolph

After his first Pro Bowl season last year, Kyle Rudolph is quickly becoming one of the young stars of the NFL. He should only improve this year, and he's already shown through three preseason games that he'll be a bigger part of the Vikings' offense in 2014.

6. Jordan Cameron

Despite being on a team with a shaky quarterback situation, Jordan Cameron should be one of the most targeted tight ends in the league this year. With Josh Gordon facing suspension, Brian Hoyer should turn to his big target quite often this season, and he should take full advantage.

5. Jason Witten

Talk about a guy who has been around for a long time. At 32, Jason Witten's play will likely begin to decline this year. Nonetheless, Tony Romo will look for his Pro Bowl tight end in an offense that likes to throw the ball. Expect Witten to put up solid numbers once again.

4. Vernon Davis

While he may not catch as many balls as some of the elite tight ends, Vernon Davis is one of the most targeted tight ends in the red zone. That means he scores lots of touchdowns and catches big passes for his quarterback, Colin Kaepernick.

3. Rob Gronkowski

Had he stayed healthy, Rob Gronkowski would likely be higher on this list. That being said, he hasn't even played at all in the preseason, and he's still the third-best tight end in the game. Once his ACL is fully healed, "Gronk" should find himself as a top-two tight end.

2. Julius Thomas

What a freak athlete. Julius Thomas only played one year of college football, but he's quickly become one of the most elite tight ends in the NFL because he's in an offense with Peyton Manning at the helm. Thomas's ceiling is extremely high as long as Manning is his QB.

1. Jimmy Graham

Alone at the top is Jimmy Graham. The New Orleans Saints tight end is in a class of his own in one of the most potent offenses in the NFL. He should put up the biggest tight end numbers in the league.
