Oakland Raiders Rumors: Could Team Bring Back Terrelle Pryor?
Despite a decent preseason, Terrelle Pryor stands a good chance of getting the ax from the Seattle Seahawks when final cuts roll around this weekend. When that happens, there’s a real possibility that the Oakland Raiders could be interested in bringing Pryor back to the Black Hole.
While it’s not a foregone conclusion that Pryor will be cut, he clearly is still behind Tarvaris Jackson for Seattle’s backup job. And considering that they’re fairly comfortable with Russell Wilson as the starter and are known for their impressive depth on the defensive side of the ball, the Seahawks might simply choose to go into the regular season with only two quarterbacks on the roster. If that’s the case, Pryor will soon be packing his bags.
So where do the Raiders come into this equation?
Well if Pryor is cut, there’s plenty of reason to believe Oakland will be interested in getting him back after trading him to the Seahawks in April.
While the Raiders appear set at quarterback with veteran Matt Schaub and 2014 second-round pick Derek Carr in the mix, third-stringer Matt McGloin has recently been the subject of numerous trade rumors. If McGloin is, in fact, traded sometime soon, the Raiders would be left without a No. 3 option under center. And seeing as Schaub and Carr are far from sure things, bringing another capable arm aboard might be a good idea.
Not only does Pryor still offer a semblance of upside considering his elite athleticism, but he’s already endeared himself with Raiders fans and knows the Oakland offense. He obviously wouldn’t be much more than a fallback plan if Schaub got hurt or Carr tanked, but he also wouldn’t be the worst third-stringer in the NFL.
Obviously this all depends on whether or not the Seahawks choose to keep Pryor, but the potential is there for a reunion. If he hits the waiver wire, you better believe Reggie McKenzie will consider claiming the raw gunslinger.
