Adrian Peterson and the Dallas Cowboys have been connected before. Fans have speculated that the Texas native may want to play for the Cowboys one day, mainly because the RB has admitted that he’s a fan of the franchise.

Now it appears there are actual legs to the story of Peterson-to-the-Cowboys. According to Outside the Lines, Peterson told Jerry Jones in a June phone call that he’d one day like to suit up for him:

“Well, I understand, Adrian. I’d like that, too … Well, I love your story. I love your daddy’s story. I’ve always respected what you’ve been about. I’ve always been a fan of yours… Well, we’ll see what we can do, if we can make that happen. Hmm hmm…I’d like that, too…Well, we’re talking pig Latin here, but let’s see if we can do that. We’re talking pig Latin here, but let’s see what we can do about that. OK, Adrian, thanks,” Jones said during the phone call.

Their conversation has made it to the internet because OTL was doing a profile of Jones at the time, which also details his love for Johnny Manziel.

So, is it realistic to think that Peterson could end up in Big D?

It’s actually very realistic, but not right now. AP is currently going into the fourth year of a seven-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings, and he’s not quite to that ‘sell’ point yet. Peterson is still in his prime, and it’s likely that the Vikings will keep him as their featured player for a couple more seasons.

But once Vikings’ GM Rick Spielman starts to think he’s on the decline, don’t be surprised if he begins listening to trade offers. Four years from now is a long time for a 29-year old RB. It wouldn’t be shocking if AP played out the final two years of his current deal in Dallas, of course if Jerry is willing to wheel and deal a little. But you know he will be.
