New York Jets WR Saalim Hakim Should Earn Roster Spot

Saalim Hakim sure has been making a name for himself lately. The New York Jets wide receiver continues to prove his worth, and his solid performance all summer long will pay off in the long haul. So far during preseason football, Hakim has done very well with his route running, receptions in traffic and his blocking abilities. It should definitely be enough to help secure a well-deserved roster spot as final cuts are coming.

The Jets plan to utilize a heavy dose of running the football this season as they will specialize in a ground-and-pound style of offense that should be tops in the NFL. The scheme doesn’t really need a crazy corps of top receivers for it to be successful, but once the play action plays start to be unleashed, it will definitely help to keep the chains moving if speedy and consistent receivers are on the field.

From the group of options at wide receiver that the Jets brought in this offseason hoping to find a diamond in the rough, Hakim has delivered on a consistent basis and separated himself from the pack. With an expected receiving corps of about six players on the final roster, Hakim has earned his a spot on that list. Another great reason he should absolutely be kept by the Jets is the fact that he’s a dual-threat kind of athlete with his ability to do well on special teams.

In addition to his wide receiver duties, Hakim will most likely also be the starter as a kick return specialist.  He will help contribute on that aspect of the team and will prove to anyone watching that he was indeed worth the investment by the Jets. Who knows, this could be the start of something huge for Hakim and what his big contributions will be once the regular season hits.
