Every NFL team made cuts to get themselves down to the 53-man standard. With few surprises, here are the five moves that surprised me from the Chicago Bears.
Josh Bellamy was a standout player in the final preseason game against the Cleveland Browns. With Marquess Wilson being down for a couple more weeks, the Bears will be left with only five active receivers. Bellamy could have filled a role.
The 2009 second-round draft pick was the odd man out on the offensive line. With the emergence of Micheal Ola and drafting of Charles Leno Jr., Britton lost his chance to play in Chicago. He may not be out of a job for long.
Last season's nickel cornerback will now be this year's odd man out at corner. The drafting of Kyle Fuller may have ultimately been the last nail in Hayden's coffin. Fuller showed the ability to play at the NFL speed. Hayden's lack of special teams prowess also contributed to being cut.
Austen Lane played well all four preseason games. His demise came by the talent in front of him. Willie Young, Lamarr Houston and Jared Allen were locks. David Bass, Trevor Scott and Cornelius Washington made the roster instead.
With Devin Hester's departure, a void has yet to be filled at the kick return spot. Williams could have been the owner of that position. Senorice Perry made the roster and will most likely man kick returns. Williams showed nice speed on a 73-yard TD catch in Week 1 of preseason.
