The New England Patriots are heading into the season with huge expectations from both fans and the team itself. After loading up on defense to try to win a championship, the Patriots are Super Bowl or bust this season. Knowing this, I have come up with 10 bold predictions for the Patriots in a season where bold may be hard to come by. Read on to find out what might be in store for the Patriots in 2014.

After a down year in 2013, Tom Brady will be out to prove that he has not declined, contrary to what doubters think. With Brandon LaFell and Tim Wright along with a healthy Rob Gronkowski, Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman, Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins, Brady has a bevy of pass catchers to throw to. His offensive line is a question mark, but he should be able to overcome those concerns, leading the NFL in TDs and yards in the process.

If Tom Brady leads the NFL in touchdowns and passing yards as I predicted already, there is a good chance he will win the MVP award. He is no stranger to the award, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the winner come down to him and Peyton Manning. Ultimately, I believe Brady will edge him out, winning the third MVP award of his career.

RB Stevan Ridley has had an up-and-down career as a Patriot so far. He's shown that he possesses a lot of talent as a runner, but he has a fumbling issue. The Pats drafted James White in May, they have Jonas Gray on the practice squad and Shane Vereen should factor heavily into their current and future plans. RBs get hurt in the NFL. Knowing that, it wouldn't be surprising if the Pats trade Ridley as a value play at some point this season.

Okay Patriots fans, before you start sending me hateful tweets hear me out. Tom Brady is and always will be the starter in Foxboro barring injury, retirement or a future trade. I believe Garoppolo will only play sparingly this year, in the fourth quarter of a blowout or two. Brady doesn't like sitting, but Bill Belichick may want to see Garoppolo in a real game. Brady has very little time left, and the Patriots need to plan for the future.

6. Jerod Mayo Will Lead The Team In Tackles

Jerod Mayo leading the team in tackles may not sound like much of a bold prediction. However, coming off an injury and with good defenders around him, he may not be the lock that he appears to be. Jamie Collins is a threat, Vince Wilfork is still around and Dont'a Hightower is also in the mix. Still, Mayo has the best run defense instincts, and with Brandon Spikes gone, he has as good a chance as anyone to be atop the tackle leaderboard.

5. Shane Vereen Will Lead The Team In Rushing

Shane Vereen has had injury issues in the past for the Patriots. That could happen again, but he's healthy heading into the season for the first time in a while. Stevan Ridley has had fumble issues and probably won't be with the Patriots next season. Vereen is the most dynamic RB on the roster and is entering a contract year. The Pats will probably want to get a better look at him as a rusher this year to see if they want to extend him.

4. Chandler Jones Will Win NFL Defensive Player Of The Year Award

Chandler Jones has been a very productive player in his short NFL career so far. Now that Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner are in the Patriots' secondary, they should help him even more this season. Good coverage in the secondary positively impacts the defensive line and vice versa. Jones should have an impressive number of sacks, whether they are coverage sacks or not. He is the best pass rusher on the Patriots and could win the DPOY award.

3. Rob Gronkowski Will Play A Full 16-Game Regular Season

TE Rob Gronkowski has consistently been in the news for years now. Between his partying antics, his arm, bad back and torn ACL last year, Gronk can't escape scrutiny. This year, though, that may finally change. Why? He's ready for Week 1 and feels good. His last two injuries were somewhat fluky, a broken arm on an extra point, and the other, a cheap hit to the knee which shouldn't have occurred. He's played 16 games twice and he can do it again.

2. New England Patriots' Defense Will Rank No. 1 In The Entire NFL

At first glance, the Patriots seem to have holes on defense, especially at the DT and SS positions. With that said, a lot of teams have similar issues and they don't have Darrelle Revis or Brandon Browner in their secondary. The 49ers are crumbling, the Panthers have a good defense but their secondary has questions and Seattle lost Chris Clemons, Red Bryant, Walter Thurmond and Browner. The Patriots should have the No. 1 overall defense.

For obvious reasons, my No. 1 bold prediction is that the Patriots will win Super Bowl XLIX. The Pats have a defense that is arguably better than any in football, Tom Brady is still elite and the team has solid contributors on offense as long as they can stay healthy. I predict that the Patriots will beat the Saints in the Super Bowl this year, thanks in large part to an elite defense they haven't had for a decade.
