San Francisco 49ers vs. Dallas Cowboys: 5 Bold Predictions For Week 1 Matchup

Perhaps the game of the week to start the NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers -- two of the most historic professional football teams -- will square off in Jerry's World on Sunday. Coming off three 8-8 campaigns, the Cowboys look to start the year out on a good note, while the 49ers look to do the same. Here are five bold predictions for the game.

5. Dez Bryant Will Have Two Touchdowns

Although he hasn't had his contract extended yet, Dez Bryant could be even better in 2014 than he was in the past two seasons. Not only is he Tony Romo's favorite target, but Bryant is a special player and offensive coordinator Scott Linehan will look to feed the man as much as possible. That being said, the 49ers lost some talent at the cornerback position, and that could mean a huge day for No. 88.

4. Colin Kaepernick Will Have A Big Game

After being paid a ton of money over the offseason, Colin Kaepernick will have a ton of pressure on him in the 2014 season. I'm not the biggest fan of Kaepernick, but I do believe he will have a huge game against a horrendous Dallas defense. The Cowboys have had trouble against with the read option in the past, and Kaepernick could be extremely dangerous because of that.

3. Michael Sam Will Have A Sack

The Cowboys haven't signed Michael Sam just yet; they are waiting on his physical first. If he passes his physical, Sam will be placed on the practice squad. The reason why I'm predicting Sam will have a sack in Week 1 is very simple. Despite being put on the active roster and not the PUP list, Anthony Spencer is still recovering from a knee injury. I believe the Cowboys will sit Spencer, which leaves an opportunity for Sam to flourish.

2. Shootout

The 49ers annually have one of the best defenses in the NFL. By the end of the 2014 season, the 49ers will have a top-tier defense, but right now, they are without many key contributors. Patrick Willis and Justin Smith will play, but there will be no Navorro Bowman, Aldon Smith or Ray McDonald. On the opposite side, the Cowboys' defense is simply horrendous. That being said, this game could turn into a shootout early.

The 49ers are the better team, but the Cowboys are playing at home and their offense will be able to take advantage of the 49ers' defense. I said earlier how this will likely be a shootout. If that happens, it will come down to a battle between the quarterbacks. I'm not betting man, but I'll take my chances with Tony Romo over Colin Kaepernick any day of the week. I have the Cowboys winning 34-31 on a last-second field goal by Dan Bailey.
