The Washington Redskins and Houston Texans enter 2014 with plenty of questions. That tends to happen when two teams had a combined five wins the year prior (Washington three, Houston two).

For the purposes of this contest, the team with the better quarterback could end up claiming the victory. A Rookie of the Year award in 2012 would suggest Robert Griffin III is the best QB in the game, and Ryan Fitzpatrick‘s numbers would probably agree.

However, Kirk Cousins is also a capable QB on the Redskins, and the Texans just landed former New England Patriots QB Ryan Mallett.

RG3 has the talent to take over a game and put up some impressive stats, but has quite a bit of pressure on him to succeed this season.

Needless to say, at least entering this game, Washington’s defense shouldn’t have a problem with Fitzpatrick. On the offensive end, Alfred Morris is more than capable of having a big game, as he rushed for 1,000+ yards once again in 2013. It will be interesting to see how J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney affect the Redskins’ plans on the offensive side of the ball, though.

Washington travels on the road in Week 1, but I am a believer in Griffin III, and believe he will have a better season. At the same time, there is nothing too threatening about Houston’s QB, so the edge goes to the Redskins on the offensive side of the ball.

Depending on how well Griffin III plays, this could be a close one.

PREDICTION: Redskins 24, Texans 17
