The New York Jets and Oakland Raiders will be facing off in Week 1. This offseason both teams have added a lot of new faces, and with each team having tough schedules, Week 1 is very important. Here are five players who will be top performers for both teams after they battle on the gridiron.
As 2013 defensive rookie of the year, Sheldon Richardson is not shy when it comes to talking about opponents, and heading into Week 1 was no different. Richardson does however back up his words, so if he says the Jets’ front seven will dominate Derek Carr, he probably believes it. Richardson wants to be a Pro Bowl player this season, and he will start 2014 with a great Week 1.
It will be Eric Decker’s first game as a Jet. He will be looking to impress and show that he was worth the money. Last season in two games against the Raiders, Decker caught 12 passes for 160 yards with two touchdowns. Decker has a lot to prove this season, and a good home debut will go a long way in helping with that
Jets new running back Chris Johnson is poised for a big game in Week 1, as he seems to be healthy and motivated to get back to the 2,000 yard rusher that he once was. Oakland made some good moves in the offseason on defense, but Johnson will bring a new dynamic to the Jets’ offense, as he is the first running back that New York has had in a while that can be dangerous as a receiver out of the backfield.
New Jersey native Rod Streater had a very good game last season against the Jets and, in Week 1, will be attempting to do the same. Last season, Streater burned the Jets’ secondary for seven catches, 130 yards, and a touchdown. He, along with newly acquired James Jones, could have a field day against the poor Jets’ secondary.
Last season, the game against the Raiders was the one that Geno Smith turned his season around in. With more weapons than he had in last season’s game, Smith will have even better stats than that game in Week 1. Smith threw for 219 yards, and also ran for 50 yards with a passing and rushing touchdown. A strong preseason and training camp will translate into a good Week 1 for Smith.
