After three weeks of the NFL season, the picture of what teams are good and what teams aren’t starts to become a little bit clearer. As for the Tennessee Titans, an upset victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 led many to believe that maybe they were a bit better than originally expected, but the last two weeks have both been bad losses for the Titans leading to a lot of panic in Tennessee.
In Week 2, the Titans were home favorites against the Dallas Cowboys but were pretty much dominated throughout the game, as the Cowboys pulled off a 26-10 win. Against the poor Cowboys’ defense, Jake Locker struggled, throwing two interceptions and completing just a hair over 50 percent of his passes.
Against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3, Locker’s play got even worse playing the talented Bengals’ defense. In the 33-7 whooping, Locker went 17-for-34 with 185 yards and two interceptions. In the two losses for the Titans, Locker has played very poorly, and in a quarterback driven league, the Titans need more from the position.
Locker, who has had multiple injuries already in his short NFL career, hurt his wrist in the loss to the Bengals, and now his status for Week 4 is very much up in the air. After the game, Locker was barely even able to grip a football, and now his poor play and injured wrist may lead to the Titans giving someone else a chance to play.
The other two QBs on the Titans roster are Charlie Whitehurst and Zach Mettenberger, who both very well may be seeing playing time in either Week , or somewhere down the road this season for the Titans. Whoever gets the start will likely not provide the offense with the spark it will need to topple Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4.
With the 1-2 start for the Titans, and a likely loss coming to the Colts on Sunday, it is sure looking like Tennessee’s 2014 season is not going to be resulting in not a lot of success. The one thing that they need to improve is for one of their QBs to play well, otherwise their season is in a ton of trouble.
