The San Diego Chargers are taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 4. This isn’t exactly a matchup that puts fear into the hearts of Bolts fans. That makes it hard to find an x-Factor in this game.
Obviously, everyone could end up being an x-Factor. When a team is facing a defense that is last in both rushing yards against and passing yards against, it makes it hard to pinpoint one player who will break out. In fact, many players should have great games. For the x-Factor, look at a player who has something to prove. That player is Donald Brown.
Brown’s career could be described as intriguing. He was always a good backup plan for the Indianapolis Colts, but could never get the distinction of being the No. 1 guy. Now, thanks to injuries to Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead, he is the No. 1 guy in San Diego.
Brown has been brutal so far this season. He is only averaging two yards per carry. He is having trouble finding holes, while the rest of the team is dealing with the same issues. The Chargers’ rushing attack is currently ranked as 26th in the NFL. If they want to be a dark-horse Super Bowl contender, they are going to need to fix the rushing game.
They need to take some of the onus off of Philip Rivers. They need to do that with the rushing game. Brown is going to need to average about four yards per carry.
If Brown is ever going to fix these issues, he is going to do it against the Jaguars. They have been slashed by every RB who has stepped on the field.
The x-Factor here deals more with an audition for the future. If Brown can’t get it done against the Jags, there is a good chance the Chargers will still win. If Brown cannot get it done, then the Chargers have to do something else with the position until Mathews comes back. We will all find out this weekend.
