I would have liked the New England Patriots’ odds in this game at the start of the 2014 NFL season. Entering Week 5, not so much.
The Patriots are not off to the worst start in franchise history or anything like that, but they just aren’t as good as many people thought they would be entering the year. They stand at 2-2, and are coming off of a 41-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Tom Brady had 159 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in that game, but in no way was the loss 100 percent his fault.
Flipping the ball over to the Cincinnati Bengals, they could be the best team in the NFL. The Bengals are just one of two teams that are still undefeated. No to mention, two of their wins came against Baltimore and Atlanta. Both are playoff contenders. QB Andy Dalton only has two touchdowns in 2014, but that number will obviously go up with more games under his belt.
The Bengals should be fresh in this contest since they are coming off of a bye week and all.
As much as I want to say New England is a playoff team right now, it just isn’t there yet. They do play in a weaker division, which will definitely help them when it comes to actually making the postseason, but in no way will that help them against Cincinnati.
The Patriots are playing at home, though, where they are 1-0 on the season.
PREDICTION: Bengals 25, Patriots 21
