After missing the Cleveland Browns‘ last two games because of a sprained knee, Ben Tate is expected to return to the Browns’ starting lineup in Week 5. Without Tate in the lineup, rookie running backs Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell have played well, and that means that Tate is going to need to play exceptionally well to keep his hold on the starting job. Tate has the talent to re-emerge as the Browns’ clear-cut starter, and his play could really have an impact on the outcome of the Browns’ Week 5 contest against the Tennessee Titans.
Tate has shown in the past that he can carry a team’s running game. Let’s not forget that he was able to rack up 771 rushing yards as a member of the Houston Texans last season, and did so despite the fact that opposing defenses didn’t have to worry about the threat of a passing game. Tate also fared well in week one this season, running for 41 yards on just six attempts before exiting with the injury.
Not to mention, Tate can hold his own as a receiver and a blocker. With great hands for a running back, Tate caught 34 balls last season with the Texans, and that came with a mediocre combination of Matt Schaub and Case Keenum at the helm. As a blocker, Tate has the strength and size you want, and he isn’t afraid of contact.
Overall, Ben Tate is the Cleveland Browns’ x-factor in week five because he could single-handedly change the outcome of the game with a few solid runs. The talent is there for Tate to break out, and against a Titans team that is falling apart, Tate should have a great day running the football.
