Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers: Predicting the Final Score

Both the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers are hoping to improve to 3-2 when the two teams head-to-head. The Chiefs are coming off a dominating performance against the New England Patriots in Week 4 and the 49ers scrapped out a win against the Philadelphia Eagles, but both are looking to get above .500 and hopefully stay there for the rest of the season.

This game is going to be centered around two things: defense and running the football. Frank Gore should get a heavy workload against a Chiefs defense that has been middle-of-the-road defending against the run. On the flip side, Jamaal Charles is coming off his best game of the 2014 season for the Chiefs. Charles had 21 touches in Week 4 against the Patriots and he totaled three touchdowns. Expect the Chiefs to pound the 49ers’ defense on the ground, even though it has been ranked No. 2 against the run early on in the season.

I anticipate this game to be a slow-paced, long-drive affair. I’m sure the gameplan for both teams is to eat up the clock, keep the opposing offense off the field and limit mistakes. It should be interesting to see what versions of these two teams show up. Like I mentioned, the Chiefs man-handled the Patriots last week, but many are doubting that this is the type of team we should expect week in and week out. For the 49ers, their offense is still looking to take off and it hasn’t put up more than 30 points in 2014. The 49ers beat down the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, but QB Colin Kaepernick has four interceptions in his last three games.

The 49ers have the home-field advantage in this game and that is huge because no team likes to play in Arrowhead Stadium. I expect a close, low-scoring affair between these two teams until the clock ticks down to zero.

Prediction: San Francisco 49ers 17, Kansas City Chiefs 13
