In the NFL, coaches have very little job security. All it takes is one subpar season for a head coach to find himself unemployed, and it takes even less time than that for the coach to start feeling the heat. Although it’s early in the 2014 season, we have already seen one head coach fired, and plenty of other coaches put on the hot seat.

With that said, here are five coaches on the hot seat after Week 5.

Although this is just his first season as the Tennessee Titans’ head coach, Ken Whisenhunt’s seat is already starting to get warm. His team has looked bad at every level, and unless some of the Titans’ young players can step up, Whisenhunt might be one-and-done for Tennessee.

In his third season with the Miami Dolphins, Joe Philbin’s tenure in Miami has been plagued by poor play and locker room troubles. Last season’s bullying scandal cast serious doubt over Philbin’s ability to lead the franchise, and the Dolphins 2-2 record this year hints at another mediocre season. That’s enough to get Philbin fired.

Another coach in his first year with a new team, Lovie Smith has been a disappointment so far as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Normally, a head coach will get more than one season to prove himself, but with the amount of talent the Buccaneers have, Smith can’t afford to continue losing.

2. Jeff Fisher

At some point, the St. Louis Rams will need to stop using the injured starting quarterback excuse as a reason to keep Jeff Fisher around -- parting ways with the veteran coach might be the best option. Fisher isn’t getting the most out of the talent he has available, and unless things turn around fast, he might be without a job by the end of the season.

In 2013, Rex Ryan took a New York Jets team that was devoid of talent and made them a decent unit. Unfortunately, Ryan hasn’t been able to work that same magic in 2014. Geno Smith is an absolute disaster as a starting quarterback, and with a defense that lacks talent in the secondary, Ryan is squarely on the hot seat.
