Alex Henery was supposed to be the answer to the Detroit Lions‘ kicking woes, but he proved to be just another step in the wrong direction. No one could have predicted that Henery would end up being even less accurate than the struggling Nate Freese, yet that is exactly what happened.

The Lions are bound and determined to show the world the importance of having a quality placekicker. Both of the Lions’ losses in 2014 thus far could be attributed to missed field goal opportunities. Special teams problems have come back to bite the Lions in the past, and kicking was also an issue for the 2013 team. To make a long story short, the Lions have problems at kicker that need to be addressed as soon as possible.

Henery went 0-for-3 in his field goal attempts against the Buffalo Bills and was subsequently released on Monday afternoon. The Lions are reportedly eying the former Denver Broncos kicker Matt Prater and former University of Michigan and Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely.

The Lions have a tough decision to make, and both Feely and Prater have baggage of their own. Feely is an old man at 38 years old, and Prater has been struggling with substance abuse and a suspension. There really is no ideal kicking situation left for the Lions, but the fact is that something has to be done. Both Feely and Prater are set to work out for the Lions on Tuesday.
