It’s no secret that the Oakland Raiders are in dire need of a head coach. Owner Mark Davis just recently fired coach Dennis Allen (who sends his thanks from his vacation home in London) ,and anyone who watched the 2008-11 Miami Dolphins can tell you that Tony Sparano is not the answer. So, who could the Raiders bring in to fix this franchise?
There has been lots of news of Davis trying to coax ex-Raiders head coach Jon Gruden out of retirement and return to the Black Hole. Bringing in Gruden would be a huge boost for Davis, who is in a sticky situation as an owner since he doesn’t have a stadium after 2015 and no one wants to buy the stinking Raiders. It makes a lot of sense for Davis to work his tail off trying to get Gruden to return to the Bay Area where he still walks on water, despite beating the Raiders in the Super Bowl.
For Gruden, this move makes zero sense, because who wants to come out of retirement to coach the Raiders? Maybe if it was a good team he’d think about it, but not the Raiders.
This leaves Davis in a pickle. Getting a big-name head coach would certainly help get the Raiders back on track and drum up a little excitement for a team that is otherwise 100 precent unexciting. And that man could be Jim Harbaugh.
Somehow Harbaugh went from San Francisco 49ers’ beloved head coach to evil, angry dictator who almost got traded to the Cleveland Browns at the beginning of the season. What is that all about? The 49ers seem intent on blaming all their problems on Harbaugh and discrediting him as a coach, but still want a sizable return for him. I’m not sure it works like that. Also, your problems run deeper than just Harbaugh. Let’s start with a quarterback who has Aloe Blacc repeating in his ears during games instead of listening to the coaches calls. To me, that just seems like an issue.
Let’s also not forget that Harbaugh started his NFL coaching career with the Raiders back in 2002 as the quarterbacks coach.
The 49ers seem hellbent on moving Harbaugh, and the Raiders are hellbent on finding a head coach who can win more than eight games in three years (definitely a challenge). A trade between the 49ers and Raiders makes a lot of sense, and this way Harbaugh wouldn’t even have to move. It’s almost too perfect.
