Predicting The Final Score Of Colts vs. Texans Week 6 Matchup

The Indianapolis Colts will take the trip southwest to the Lone Star state to take on the surprise Houston Texans, who are 3-2 and tied with them atop the AFC South. This matchup is important to each team’s postseason chances. Is Houston’s solid start being driven by a soft schedule, or do the Texans really have a chance to make a bold statement to the rest of the division and NFL? Could the Colts actually leave Houston without the division lead?

As nice as it has been to see a league-worst team in 2013 do well, the Texans are not built to win over a whole season. Ryan Fitzpatrick is their quarterback, and his relentless urge to throw passes up for grabs to anyone and everyone on either team will simply prove to be the Texans’ Achilles’ heel — both against the Colts and for the remainder of the season, regardless of what Arian Foster or the defense might achieve.

WR DeAndre Hopkins will undoubtedly rack up yardage and is the main threat in Houston’s passing attack, but the Colts can absorb one big performance. Andre Johnson is still a solid player, but he’s no longer a team-carrying player and doesn’t demand nearly as much attention from opposing secondaries as he once did.

There will be a ton of pressure on Foster to not only move the chains carrying the ball, but also to score in the red zone as well. Foster’s a great back, but with Fitzpatrick quarterbacking this team, it gives the Colts the ability to focus a tad more on stopping the run, doing so with an extra player in the box to help clog up the middle. Indianapolis’ defense isn’t overly impressive, but it will do a serviceable job in this matchup.

The Colts’ offense did not look like a juggernaut whatsoever in their 20-13 win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5, but I wouldn’t read too much into Andrew Luck‘s two interceptions. Houston’s defense matches up terribly against the Colts, and Ahmad Bradshaw in particular due to his ability to produce in the passing game on check downs and screens.

These plays are superb equalizers against any opposing defense that sets the edge and has a dynamic pass rush. The Colts simply have too many versatile weapons to counter Houston’s strengths; and behind those strengths are some glaring weaknesses. Don’t expect this game to be a blowout, but the Colts will persevere despite appearing to be in jeopardy of collapse on occasion.

Final score prediction: Colts 30 Texans 20
