Larry Fitzgerald Will Be X-Factor For Arizona Cardinals In Week 6
Larry Fitzgerald has not had his best season so far, but he will have to step up against the Washington Redskins if the Arizona Cardinals want to win. He has not recorded a touchdown yet this year and has only caught 13 balls on 28 targets.
With the Cardinals’ top two quarterbacks potentially down for the count on Sunday, rookie Logan Thomas will have to step up against D.C. and will need serious help from his wide receiving corps. Fitzgerald will have a lot more room to operate after facing a much-improved Denver Broncos defense last week, and the wide receiver had high praise for Peyton Manning and company.
“Everyone talks about Peyton’s offensive weapons, but what they did on defense has made a huge difference, too,” Fitzgerald told NFL Media columnist Michael Silver last Sunday. “Their pass rush is a whole different animal now. (DeMarcus) Ware, Terrance Knighton, those guys are good. They’re going to be in the AFC Championship Game.”
Expect him to have his best game of the season against the Redskins, because he will be targeted much more often against their ailing secondary. There is no DeAngelo Hall out there to make life miserable, which should open up windows on a couple slants and deep routes. If Thomas wisely leans on Fitzgerald, then he should have a much more productive day than many might think.
This should be a low scoring game, but the Cardinals’ wide receiver will end up with over 100 yards receiving and at least one TD.
That would be the first time both feats happened for Fitzgerald this season, which is why on Sunday, he is my X-factor.
