After two straight wins, San Francisco 49ers fans aren't an unfulfilled bunch. However, their recent triumph over the Kansas City Chiefs still leaves them in the NFC West's passenger seat at 3-2.

A primetime clash against the St. Louis Rams looms on Monday night, and for the 49ers to keep pace in the division, they need to add another victory to their streak.

Colin Kaepernick is on pace to record his worst season as a pro. His average yards per completion is down to 7.42 -- from 7.69 in 2013 and 8.32 in 2012 -- and he's already halfway to his career-worst mark of eight INTs. His QBR is down 11.4 points from last year and 15 points from 2012.

He's about to face the NFL's sixth-ranked passing defense, but if Kap can be a game manager -- not a gunslinger -- the 49ers will leave The Lou with a win.

The Rams give up an average of 152.5 rushing yards a game. The 49ers average 145 rush yards a game.

A kindergartner has the math skills necessary to realize that the 49ers should run the ball against the Rams. Hopefully Greg Roman does, too.

There are currently 24 NFL teams that are more successful at scoring touchdowns in the red zone than the 49ers. The absence of Vernon Davis further exacerbates the issue, but it's hard to imagine the 49ers not scoring red zone majors against a Rams defense that owns the league's 29th-ranked run defense.

With a rushing defense that bad, the 49ers might be able to run the ball on every play inside the Rams' 20-yard line and score.

The 49ers' defense has been better than OJ Simpson's defense in 1995. Even without Johnnie Cochran, Aldon Smith and NaVorro Bowman, they're currently ranked among the NFL's top-five teams in pass and run defense.

49ers nation should be proud.

The 49ers currently trail the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals in the ultra-competitive NFC West. A loss by both teams this weekend would level the playing field, and for the 49ers -- who travel to the Mile High City to battle Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in Week 7 -- it couldn't come at a better time.
