The Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Tennessee Titans in Week 6. The good news is that both teams can’t lose, which has happened in each of the last four weeks. Most teams circle big games or rivalries on the schedule; Jacksonville and Tennessee circled this game because it was one they have a chance to win.

Last week, the Titans blew a 25-point home lead, an NFL record, to the Cleveland Browns. The game also saw the return and predictable re-injury of Jake Locker. He is expected to miss this week’s game as well. That means it’s Charlie Whitehurst time in Tennessee.

Jacksonville is coming off of their most competitive game all year, a 17-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was the first time all season that the Jaguars gave up less than 30 points. While the defense finally showed up, the offense remained an issue.

Blake Bortles has been about what you would expect from a rookie quarterback. He makes a couple of throws that show off his immense talent, and then follows it up by heaving the ball into traffic while being sacked. This week, Bortles is going to be joined in the backfield by his college teammate Storm Johnson. Jacksonville is hoping that Johnson can spark something in their running game, which is averaging just 67 yards per game.

Pass protection will be the key to this game for both sides. Jacksonville has given up the most sacks in the league, with the Titans close behind at fourth. The advantage for Jacksonville could be on the other side of the line. Their defense is just one sack shy of first place in the league. Some of that is due to the amount of times teams are passing against them, but their ability to get consistent pressure has been the only bright spot for Jacksonville.

I think Jacksonville’s defensive pressure will turn out to be the difference in the game. The Titans will compound last week’s collapse with a loss to Jacksonville, with the final score being 17-13. The Jaguars will find their way out of the winless club, leaving the Oakland Raiders all by themselves for the foreseeable future.
